Congratulations to Dr. Teri Mitchell on Becoming a Certified Dementia Practitioner

Geriatric House Call Dentistry is proud to congratulate Dr. Teri Mitchell, CDP, on earning her Certified Dementia Practitioner credential.

This achievement reflects Dr. Mitchell’s continued commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered dental care for older adults and individuals with complex medical and cognitive needs throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Specialized Training for Patients Living With Dementia

Caring for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia can require a thoughtful and highly individualized approach. Changes in memory, communication, behavior, and cognition may affect how a patient experiences and responds to dental care. The Alzheimer’s Association emphasizes the importance of patience, understanding, clear communication, and adapting interactions to the individual as dementia progresses.

As a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), Dr. Mitchell has pursued additional education focused on caring for people living with dementia. The credential is awarded through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP) and reflects specialized education in person-centered dementia care, including communication, behavioral changes, safety, and support.

For Dr. Mitchell, this additional training complements her dental expertise and her commitment to creating a comfortable, respectful, and supportive experience for patients and their caregivers.

A Natural Fit for Geriatric House Call Dentistry

At Geriatric House Call Dentistry, many of the patients we serve have difficulty accessing care in a traditional dental office. Our dentists provide mobile dental services directly to patients in private homes, assisted living communities, memory care communities, and other residential settings.

Dr. Mitchell’s Certified Dementia Practitioner training is especially relevant in this environment. It provides additional perspective for adapting communication and the overall dental experience around each patient’s abilities, comfort level, and individual needs.

Whenever appropriate, our team also works alongside family members, caregivers, nurses, facility staff, and other healthcare professionals to help make oral health an important part of a patient’s overall care.

Continuing a Commitment to Older and Vulnerable Adults

A San Francisco Bay Area native, Dr. Mitchell has a strong professional interest in dental public health and innovative models of care that improve access for aging and vulnerable populations.

She completed her dental training and an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco. Her advanced clinical background, combined with her dementia-focused training, supports her approach to delivering comprehensive and compassionate dental care beyond the walls of a traditional dental practice.

Congratulations, Dr. Mitchell!

We are pleased to have Dr. Teri Mitchell, CDP as part of the Geriatric House Call Dentistry team and congratulate her on this professional achievement.

Her commitment to continuing education and to better understanding the needs of patients living with dementia aligns closely with our mission: making quality dental care more accessible to older adults and individuals who may otherwise have difficulty receiving it.

Congratulations, Dr. Mitchell!
