Here are some of the FAQs that we get
Is it necessary to extract root tips for elderly patients?
We often hear that other dentists are suggesting all root tips should be removed. We rarely extract root tips especially if they are not causing pain or pose any issue. Most of our patients are old and frail, we do not recommend difficult treatments for them to recover from. So, unless it is absolutely necessary, we do not recommend removing root tips.
Is sedation necessary for cleaning?
While sedation is generally considered safe, we rarely suggest it. We are equipped with special tools, techniques, and years of experience that have taught us so that we can treat our patients in the comfort of their homes.
Is filling always the best option?
When treating elderly patients, the simplest treatment is often the best course of action. When we see that a patient can no longer handle going through drilling and filling, we offer alternative treatment, silver diamine fluoride which is a liquid that coats the decay and hardens it. It works effectively after two treatments two weeks apart, with no drilling, no filling, and no pain, simple yet very effective.
Do I need new dentures?
This is another common question that we get. While getting a new denture can sometimes be the only option, we do not suggest getting one if we determine that the one that the patient already has can still be fixed. We always try to do a reline or give adhesive instead of outright advising the patient to get a new one. If the patient needs new dentures, we’ll be honest about it.
