Out of 34,074 participants, 4,689 had cognitive impairment or dementia.

  1. Participants who were missing 20 or more teeth
    • 48% higher risk of cognitive impairment.
    • 28% higher risk of dementia.
  2. Participants who had lost all their teeth
    • 54% higher risk of cognitive impairment.
    • 40% higher risk of dementia.

Participants who had missing teeth but used dentures did not have a significantly higher risk of dementia.
