Let’s talk about dental care for your loved ones residing in an assisted living, either in the independent living section or in a memory care unit.
Going to the dentist for some living in Assisted Living can be a huge ordeal. Even if mobility isn’t a huge challenge, it’s nice to know that you have a plan B if your denture breaks during a winter snow day or when it 20 degrees outside.
If mobility is an issue, having the option of seeing a dentist in your apartment or the wellness center is a huge relief. Our house-call dentists can do almost every service that you may need. We can do all diagnostics such as exams, x-rays, and oral cancer screenings.
Dentistry Services Available for Residents of an Assisted Living Center, or Memory Care Unit
Our services include cleanings also called prophy’s, fluoride, sensitivity treatments, dentures, partials, denture relines which is a tightening procedure if the denture becomes loose, denture repairs, fillings, Arrest treatments or silver diamine fluoride that we refer to as “fillings without drilling” which is a godsend treatment for our dementia and Alzheimer’s patients, second opinions, most extractions, oral care instruction, and most importantly, emergencies.
Let’s talk about the treatment of patients in the memory care unit
At GeriatricHouseCallDentistry, our providers are trained to treat your residents with dementia, all forms of Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinsons” and other issues related to cognitive decline. We have the patience and tools necessary to make us your providers of choice. We only use sedation as the last available option when the patient has pain and infection and MUST be treated, and cannot cooperate for this necessary treatment.
It is essential for everyone to know that we must work with the primary care physician at your Assisted Living, building a professional relationship and will have a complete medical history in our files before the first visit.
Working with Caregivers or Care Managers
We are also more than happy to work with your staff to teach them how to provide oral care as a caregiver and how important this care is to overall health.
A complaint that you may hear from families is that it doesn’t look like their teeth are as clean as they used to be. Let us suggest products and technology so that you know that effective oral care is being implemented.
Please know that we have great relationships with most of the assisted living centers in the communities where we have dental service providers.
